WUFI is a family of simulation tools developed by the Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics IBP for analysing the hygrothermal performance of building components under realistic climatic conditions.
The software can be used to investigate moisture accumulation, drying behaviour, condensation risks and the long-term interaction between heat and moisture within building assemblies. Simulations can account for effects such as built-in moisture, driving rain, solar and long-wave radiation, capillary transport and changing climatic conditions.
WUFI Pro is designed for one-dimensional simulations of building envelope cross-sections and is suitable for analysing layered constructions such as walls and roofs. WUFI 2D extends the analysis to two-dimensional geometries and is particularly useful for complex construction details such as building corners, window connections, foundation details and thermal bridges.
The WUFI tools include climate and material databases and allow users to define their own materials and boundary conditions. Depending on the application, results can include temperature, relative humidity, water content, heat and moisture fluxes and moisture profiles within building components.
WUFI is particularly suited to the assessment and development of moisture-sensitive constructions and materials where simplified steady-state methods are not sufficient.
