    • Materialarchiv is a collaborative, non-commercial initiative that has been building a freely accessible reference on materials since 2007. By linking physical collections—equipped with RFID and QR technologies—with its digital platform materialarchiv.ch, the network provides detailed, authoritative information on over 1,500 materials, 140 material groups, 180 processes, 120 construction types, and 1,600 applications.

Each entry concisely presents key aspects such as material properties, manufacturing techniques, usage possibilities, historical context, and ecological and economic considerations, all enriched with images and application examples. Supported by a diverse network of universities, museums, and cultural institutions, Materialarchiv aims to educate not only the design and architecture community but also the broader public, promoting a responsible and informed approach to material use.

Through interactive exhibitions, events, publications, and collaborative projects, the initiative addresses current challenges such as circularity and recycling, ensuring continuous quality control and unbiased expert guidance.
