The Primeo Energie Kosmos in Münchenstein expands an existing electricity museum into a science and experience center focused on climate and energy. Designed with a circular approach, over two-thirds of the materials are reused or recyclable, significantly reducing gray energy and waste.
The three-story wooden structure, designed by Rapp Architekten, integrates repurposed materials, including wood planks from a 100-year-old boathouse, reclaimed façade panels, and salvaged industrial fixtures. A steel trellis, constructed from former Swissgrid high-voltage masts, wraps the exterior, serving as a brise-soleil and plant support, while the Faraday cage-inspired façade references electrical energy.
Natural ventilation and exposed mass timber elements create a low-energy, immersive learning environment. As a beacon of sustainable building, the project demonstrates innovative material reuse, blending education with a forward-thinking environmental vision.
