    • The Gewerbehaus K118 in Winterthur is a pioneering example of circular construction, transforming an existing warehouse using exclusively reclaimed materials. The three-story extension consists of repurposed steel beams, aluminum windows, and granite panels, sourced from deconstructed buildings. The structure integrates natural materials such as wood, straw, and clay, ensuring a healthy indoor climate while reducing the construction footprint by 60% compared to conventional new builds.

The vibrant orange-red façade, made of reused trapezoidal sheet metal, contrasts with the existing ochre brick hall, creating a striking landmark in the evolving industrial district. Twelve ateliers and workshops, distributed across six floors, are organized around shared kitchens and communal spaces, fostering collaboration and creativity.

As a lighthouse project for sustainable building, K118 demonstrates how circular planning reduces CO₂ emissions and material waste, earning recognition with the Prix Acier 2021 and Holcim Award for Sustainable Construction.
